ROAR Carpet Nationals.....2007 Posted by Todd Hodge on 12/31/69 at 04:00pm PST PST Wow is all I can say about the ROAR Carpet Nationals last week. It is the Wednesday after and I am still tired. Some may call going to the Nationals a vacation however it is definitely a long week of work for me. I know I was planning on doing updates on the site however I was simply too tired after each day of practice and racing. It is absolutely amazing how much racing takes out of your mind and body. Perhaps I should start jogging around the building like Masami at the 2001 IFMAR Worlds in Finland? Where to start? ROAR has been under extreme scrutiny over the past few years with the quality of racing and the simple question “Why should I go to a ROAR National?”. At this year Nationals the crew at ROAR stepped up the program by having the “Race Management Team” on hand. These guys rocked and did a great job running the race, tech, and refereeing the event. This year also saw another surprise at the ROAR Nationals, more entries. From my counting there were 273 entries at the event making this one of the highest entry races in years. Hats off to all the ROAR guys who came, Ruben Benitez, Mike Queller, Bob Ingersoll. Doug Hay, and Steve Webster. If I missed your name I do apologize. The track was dialed in my opinion. It was a typical old school tight 1.12 layout with a very short straightaway. I loved the track until the Taxi Cab Mod A-Main. The mains were brutal for racers qualifying back in the pack being 4th-10th. Maybe if Cyrul was not so punched in the first couple of turns in A1 a few of us could have finished….LOL. However I do not have much to talk about considering how hard I hit Blackstock in A3. Luckily he did not break and I hit him in the right direction. I hit him hard enough he felt it on the drivers stand as he almost jumped out of his shoes. These TC mains are always like this so it does not really matter as it only adds excitement. Lemiuex really saw how important it is to qualify in at least the top 2 at a TC race. With him qualifying 5th he had some tough luck in the mains. In 1.12 modified there was also some tough love. My right ear still hurts after A2. Cyrul decided to yell at the top of his lungs letting another racer in the A-Main how he felt about the passing tactics that he did. Note to ROAR: We should not be allowed to swear on the drivers stand out loud like that and it does take away from the professionalism that we tend to lack at these events. I can somewhat understand the comment however actions speak louder than words and Josh did win A2 giving himself a shot to win. Pertaining to some other racers, it is also funny how some racers can run you over and not realize it then you hit them and then their world is coming to end. Then to hear racers say I owed him from the last race is total BS. Come on we all want to win. Just because you can not win that current race gives you no right to hit someone else. Man if that was the case we would all need journals on who hit us. Get over it, TQ or qualify 2nd and have a chance to win or have fun battling it out with the rest of the A-Main. Tosso almost made it 3 in a row which would have been very impressive. To me 2 in a row are very impressive in TC these days. Congratulations to Barry getting the monkey off his back and winning the event. Good job Barry now put that car away and save it for Vegas. In 1:12 my CRC Gen X car was awesome. 9.680! Unfortunately some tough luck and mistakes on my part kept me out of the top 3. The power was amazing with runtime after an 8 minute run averaging 60 seconds at 30 amps. Yea Team Orion!! The Type R had a great weekend with us having 4 cars in the top 12 in qualifying. These TC bodies that we use these days are too thin. If someone would come out with a body that would not tuck during racing they would outsell everyone. TC modified is way too fast and 5 cells at this race would have been dialed. I would like to thank all my sponsors over the past weekend, Team Losi, Orion, JACO, Novak, Xenon, Much More, Spektrum, JR, VGU, Kolors by Kropy, and JGO Paintz. With a special thanks to Bruce Carbone for the extra help. Mongolian Grill rocks! By the way JGO Paintz won concours in 1.12! |
